The Blood Countess

Did you think news of new episodes might be a cruel April Fool's prank? Well it's not, but I'll tell you what is cruel...

..........................................................................................................the story of an infamous noblewoman.

Many of you have heard of Count Dracula–the fictional and lethally charming immortal vampire of Transylvania. The Count was inspired by Romanian prince, Vlad the Impaler of Romania. A ruthless royal who would impale the heads of his enemies on spikes as symbols of his victories, or so the legend goes. Bram Stoker, the author of Dracula, had even used Vlad's self-created name "Vlad of Dracul", meaning "son of the dragon", as the namesake of our beloved villain Dracula. What many of us may learn, is that there is another rumored inspiration for the centuries-old story about a blood-sucking predator...The Countess Elizabeth Bathory of Hungary.

Elizabeth Bathory, her proper name being Erzsabét Báthory, is a legend of Hungarian infamy.

She is best known for bathing in the blood of her victims in order to keep a bewitching, youthful appearance. She is recorded as having around 650 victims, all of them young girls from surrounding villages within her domain. She is "caught" when she starts preying on the daughters of lesser nobles, some say out of envy of their beautiful fresh faces. The Countess earned the moniker with the formula of sadistic mutilation, a torture chamber, and a seemingly endless supply of village virgins.

We decided to dive into the story of the Blood Countess, for she is an unusual marker of history, especially in regards to female of power. She is regarded, in the Guinness Book of World Records, as one of the most prolific female serial killers of all time!
